The Daniel Fast Food List and Meal Ideas
Be sure to READ THE LABEL when purchasing packaged, canned or bottled foods. They should be sugar-free and chemical-free. Keep this in mind as you review this list of acceptable foods.
Foods to include in your diet during the Daniel Fast.
(Summary – All vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans & whole grains)
ALL FRUITS: These can be fresh, frozen, dried, juiced or caned. Fruits include but are not limited to apples, apricots, bananas, blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, cantaloupe, cherries, cranberries, figs, grapefruit, grapes, guava, honeydew melon, kiwi, lemons, limes, mangoes, nectarines, oranges, papayas, peaches, pears, pineapples, plums, prunes, raisons, raspberries, strawberries, tangelos, tangerines, watermelon.
ALL VEGETABLES: These can be fresh, frozen, dried, juiced or canned. Vegetables include but not limited to artichokes, asparagus, beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chili peppers, collard greens, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, ginger root, kale, leeks, lettuce, mushrooms, mustard greens, okra, onions, parsley, potatoes, radishes, rutabagas, scallions, spinach, sprouts, squashes, sweet potatooes, tomatoes, turnips, watercress, yams, zucchini, veggie burgers are an option if you are not allergic to soy.
ALL WHOLE GRAINS: Including but not limited to whole wheat, brown rice, millet, quinoa, pats, barley, grits, whole wheat pasta, whole wheat tortillas, rice cakes and popcorn.
ALL NUTS AND SEEDS: Including but not limited to sunflower seeds, cashews, peanuts, sesame. All nut butters including peanut butter.
ALL LEGUMES: These can be canned or dried. Legumes include but are not limited to dried beans, pinto beans, split peas, lentils, black eyed peas, kidney beans, black beans, cannelloni beans and white beans.
ALL QUALITY OILS: Including but not limited to olive, canola, grape seed, peanut and sesame.
BEVERAGES: Spring water, distilled water and other pure waters.
OTHER: Tofu, soy products, vinegar, seasonings, salt, herbs and spices.
Foods to avoid on the Daniel Fast – No animal products
(Summary – No meat, fish or dairy (milk, cream, cheese, yogurt, cheese cream cheese or butter), also leavened bread, caffeine & extra sugar.)
ALL MEAT AND ANIMAL PRODUCTS: Including but not limited to beef, lamb, pork poultry and fish.
ALL DAIRY PRODUCTS: Including but not limited to milk, cheese, cream, butter and eggs.
ALL SWEETENERS: Including but not limited to sugar, raw sugar, honey, syrups, molasses and cane juice.
ALL LEAVENED BREAD: Including Ezekiel Bread (it contains yeast and honey) and baked goods.
ALL REFINED AND PROCESSED FOOD PRODUCTS: Including but not limited to artificial flavorings, food additives, chemicals, white rice, white flour, and foods that contain artificial preservatives.
ALL DEEP FRIED FOODS: Including but not limited to potato chips, French fries and corn chips.
ALL SOLID FATS: Including shortening, margarine, lard and foods high in fat.
BEVERAGES: Including but not limited to coffee, tea, herbal teas, carbonated beverages, energy drinks and alcohol.
REMEMBER – READ THE LABELS!!!
Here are some Meal ideas:
BREAKFAST:
Fresh fruit, slices of vegan cheese & raw nuts
Natural oatmeal (no sugar) w/ fresh or dried fruit, slivered nuts & plant milk
Whole-grain plant-based nutrition bar (no sugar) w/ fresh fruit, GFB (Gluten-Free Bars), Fiber L’ish, Aloha, Rx bars, etc.
Whole-grain cold cereal (no sugar) w/ fresh fruit & plant milk – (Arrowhead Mills, Erewhon & Shredded Wheat have no sugar)
Granola w/ no sugar (Udi’s brand): With plant milk & fresh fruit
“Milk” Shake: Plant milk, protein powder, fresh fruit (including a banana)
SNACKS:
Vegan whole-grain chips or crackers (Try Crunchmaster!) with vegan cheese or hummus (or a “dip” made from vegan dairy products & herbs)
Celery sticks filled with vegan cream cheese or raw nut butter (no sugar)
Non-dairy yogurt with fresh fruit & granola
OTHER MEALS:
Any kind of whole-grain rice or noodles with frozen mixed veggies – (Can top with shredded vegan cheese & serve w/ salad or veggie tray)
Any kind of vegan casserole with meatless meatballs added
Vegan meal pouches over rice or noodles – (Tasty Bite or Vana brands)
Grilled veggie burgers topped with tomato, lettuce & a vegan sauce – (Serve with whole-grain chips & hummus—or salad or veggie tray)
Canned beans over whole-grain & w/ salsa – (Serve w/ a green veggie such as broccoli or asparagus)
A vegan soup with warmed pita bread slices & vegan shredded cheese

COOKIE RECIPE:
2 cups mashed bananas, 1 cup chopped dates, 1/2 cup chopped nuts, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/3 cup oil, & 2 cups whole oat flakesMix & let stand a few minutes. If needed, add a bit of flour to hold mixture together. Lightly oil or spray the cookie sheet–or line with parchment paper. Bake at 325 for 20 minutes.
